For the fourth consecutive year the citizens and guests of Bansko can experience the emotions of winter sports with the gracefulness of the classical dance. Starting on 4th until 6th of January, every evening at 6 pm, the ballet dancers of the Varna Opera together with guest-soloists of the Kremlin Ballet in Moscow will present on the stage of “Nikola Y. Vaptsarov” Community Center milestones of the dance art.
January 4th 2018 - THE NUTCRACKER
The fairy-tale ballet in two acts by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky is based on Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann's “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King”. The plot is about little Marie who is dreaming of a real Christmas gift, but instead she gets a nutcracker - a soldier in a beautiful uniform. But her wish comes true – a dream takes Marie to a magic kingdom where she dances in the arms of her Nutcracker Prince. She experiences wonderful adventures, meeting a king and a queen, mice and a whole army of lead soldiers. The dolls perform fascinating dances from Spain, China, Russia, France and finally all of them dance together in the final waltz.
January 5th 2018 - SWAN LAKE
"Swan Lake" is the most significant ballet in the world. The music was written by the genius P. I. Tchaikovsky. The plot tells an old German legend about the beautiful princess Odette, who was turned into a swan by the evil magician Rothbart. The Varna production retains the classical interpretation of the ballet with its lyrical charm and liveliness.
January 6th 2018 - THE POORLY GUARDED GIRL (AKA THE WAYWARD DAUGHTER)
"The Poorly Guarded Girl" by Ludwig Hertel is one of the first classical ballet works. It will be presented in a new choreographic version by Sergey Antonov, the soloist of Bolshoy Theater. The premiere of the opera was in the remote 1789 in Bordeaux, France. The plot is about Lise and Colas. Their love is threatened by the mean intentions of the mother of Lise – Marcelina, who wants to arrange another marriage. Slowly the feelings between the two overcome the dishonest plan of the mother. In his version Sergey Antonov adds new personages: the Gypsy woman who tells the fortune to Lise and Colas, predicting them a wedding, and Marcelina, Lise’s mother. The ballet is based on the classical dance, with lots of humour and funny situations, which makes it attractive to audiences of all ages.
