"I have always dreamed and hoped that my first World Cup victory would be in Bansko, so for me this is a dream come true. The competition was very even, the conditions were at a high level, the audience motivated me a lot. At the start it was almost like getting wings when I heard the Bulgarian fan crowd at the grand stands below," said Tervel after winning the race. In the final, he was faster by 0.15 seconds than the Austrian Fabian Obmann, despite riding on the more uncomfortable red course of the Alberto Tomba track. In the first round, the 20-year-old Zamfirov eliminated three-time world champion Andreas Prommegger. In the quarterfinals, he dealt with world champion Maurizio Bormolini, who made a bad mistake on the course. In the semifinals, Zamfirov eliminated Radoslav Yankov. The veteran Yankov made a series of excellent rides, as in the round of 16 he eliminated Italian Aaron March, who is currently the leader in the overall World Cup ranking. In the quarterfinals Zamfirov even overtook Olympic champion Benjamin Karl from Austria. In the end, Radoslav Yankov won third place on the podium.
